OUR STORY
What is The Great Drive?
The Great Drive is a passion project started by Shelina Mohamed whose objective is to make a true difference in the lives of the less fortunate through charity events and initiatives in Kenya and beyond.
We pride ourselves on bringing together like-minded individuals with a common goal and in the process creating a social environment that promotes and strengthens pluralism & teamwork. Our endurance drives often result in having to stop and help each other along the way, building bridges and lifelong friendships with treasured memories.
We drive long distances to donate to needy children's homes and schools that are often located in remote and unknown places. We highlight these homes on our social media pages to create awareness and to give others a chance to further provide for them. Through such exposure, our charity drives have long-lasting effects that echo in the hearts of many.
In addition to this, the steady willingness to lend and accept a helping hand actively nurtures our sense of community and togetherness.
We provide adventure to the explorers and a chance to give back to those who require it.
And because The Great Drive is a family-oriented event, we give parents the opportunity to expose their children to the reality of the world that they see during their visits to the various institutions. It is important for our own children to learn from a very young age to appreciate what they have, and to give back to society and our charity events make such experiences easily available.
Economical Benefits
Through our endurance drives, we promote local tourism and proudly showcase the wondrous beauty that our country has to offer.
The Great Drive healthily contributes towards the economies of the places we visit and keenly ascertain that we support local artisans in our quest for uniquely crafted memorabilia of each expedition.
We do this through our participant trophies which we make an effort to ensure are sourced from small business owners in the areas we visit and whose designs are influenced by the surrounding culture. For example, our dhow boat trophies for The Road Less Travelled that were handmade by a craftsman in Shella, Lamu.
Our exploring gives our participants access to places, people, products, and culture they wouldn't otherwise know of, meaning we are helping very many people learn about Kenya as a whole.
